Desert Experience

Lebh Shomea offers an Individual Desert Experience of 40 days and 40 nights. The Desert Experience is an opportunity for participants to pray in depth and at the same time to reflect theologically on the mystery that God is effecting within them. The program is scripturally based and draws extensively upon the spirituality of St. John of the Cross and Thomas Merton. Participants make five weeks of personalized silent retreat with guidance from experienced spiritual directors. Integrated into the overall experience is two hour's manual labor each day and the opportunity for periodic outings at our beach property on Baffin Bay.

 

The Individual Desert Experience can be started at any time, based on each individual's schedule. The stipend is listed on the Stipends Page and includes an individual dwelling, three meals a day, and spiritual direction.

We ask that those interested in making the Desert Experience forward to us a one- or two-page response to the statement: "Why I believe that God is calling me to participate in this Desert Experience." We also request a letter of recommendation from their spiritual director or from someone else who knows well their interior life.
